The Challenge
Small convenience stores in Colombia sell over-the-counter medicine by single pills. Bayer wanted to provide a solution to store clerks that could organize and help manage their products gaining
The Goal
To create a modular dispenser that can grow with the store’s capacity, be able to fit different products and different sizes and can be assembled in the point of sale.
The Team
This project was designed and manufactured in Inbima S.A for Bayer Colombia and was nominated for a ‘Lapiz de Acero’ design award in the P.O.S. category.
Initially, Bayer Colombia requested to replicate a dispenser from Argentina but after a joint evaluation, it was decided that model was not apt for the Colombian market. The client was helped through a briefing process to establish the requirements of the project which included:
The solution was aimed at neighborhood convenience stores in Colombia with a goal reach of 25.000 stores across the country.
Due to scale and transportation requirements, the solution should be shipped disassembled and easily put together in situ.
Multi-product and multi-brand, taking into account that some products have different sizes and units per SKU
The dispensers should be modular and be able to grow if the store’s capacity grows.
First proposal
Changes after the first test:
The lid could not be easily open and was too small.
No need for side branding.
The extended base worked very well and should be included in the large dispenser.
A new requirement was set. The dispenser should be able to contain the cardboard box to be shipped together.
Should be capable for installation in shelves and walls.
Final proposal
The ideation phase was focused on the possibilities that a semipublic space, such as a café, can offer to give access to Narcan to bystanders. The proposals aimed to be easy to manufacture, inexpensive, and utilizing materials donated to the project.
